What Types of Tile Flooring Does Spectrum One Offer?
As one of Sacramento’s top tile flooring contractors, Spectrum One specializes in premium ceramic and porcelain tile products from some of the top manufacturers in the industry, including:
…and many more. Whether you’re looking for tile flooring in your Sacramento home or commercial space, our knowledgeable contractors and more than two decades in business mean you can count on us to get it right, on time and on budget.
What’s the Difference Between Ceramic & Porcelain Tile?
Despite their different names, both ceramic and porcelain tiles are made with clay and other materials that are fired at high temperatures in a kiln. In fact, in many instances it can be difficult to discern a visible difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles using an untrained eye.
With this said, the key differences between ceramic and porcelain tile is that porcelain is generally made using more refined and purified form of clay, and is treated at greater pressure, resulting in a material that’s denser and harder than ceramic tiles. As such, porcelain tiles are considered more durable and wear-resistant than ceramic, which also means that it generally comes with a higher price tag.
What Other Types of Tile Flooring Does Spectrum One Provide?
In addition to ceramic and porcelain, another popular flooring material is stone tile, including:
…all of which Spectrum One can install in your Sacramento home. Other options include clay and terra cotta tiles.
When it comes to natural materials like these, compared to ceramic and porcelain, there can be a much greater variability in how porous (e.g. how much water they can absorb) these tiles are, their grade, and how slip-resistant they are (known as “coefficient of friction”). As such, if you’re interested in having Spectrum One install natural tile flooring, we’ll help you choose the best type based on your wants, needs, and overall budget.
Should I Use Ceramic, Porcelain, or Stone Tile in My Sacramento Home?
Because of the differences in their durability, you’ll typically want to use porcelain tile in areas with higher foot traffic that are more susceptible to wear and tear, such as areas around doors and other sections of your home that transition from inside to outside (e.g. mud rooms, utility rooms, etc.).
However, since ceramic and porcelain tile can crack in cold weather, they’re typically not an ideal solution for outdoor areas, especially the higher up in elevation you go. Given this, many manufacturers have begun offering outdoor-specific ceramic and porcelain tile made specifically for outdoor use, so you now how more options than ever for tile flooring.
How Long Will it Take Spectrum One to Install My Tile Flooring?
Assuming you only need a medium-sized room tiled, and there is only minimal site preparation involved (e.g. no rotting boards that require replacement, flooring is already level, etc.), your tile installation can be completed in as little as one day.
However, keep in mind that it can take 24-48 hours for the thinset (e.g. the “glue” that adheres tiles to your floors) to dry, and about the same length of time until the grout (e.g. the material that goes in between each of your tiles) dries, although it should be at least 10 days until your tile flooring is exposed to water (e.g. mopping, showers, etc.).

What Happens if I Have Cracked or Broken Tiles? Can Spectrum One Repair These?
Whether some of your tiles have chipped, cracked, or broken into pieces, in most instances, they cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced. But the good news is that Spectrum One’s tile flooring specialists have the skill needed to artfully extract any broken tiles without damaging any surrounding tiles, re-install a brand new tile, and blend it in to the surrounding grout. In most cases, you’ll never even notice that a replacement was made.
When Replacing Might Be Easier Than Repairing
With this said, keep in mind that the replacement/repair process is much more labor intensive than new installation. So if you have numerous broken tiles in an area, it may be more cost effective (and better looking) to start from scratch.
Is Tile Flooring Expensive?
Perhaps more than any other type of residential or commercial project, including siding, roofing, and more, tile flooring comes in a staggering number of shapes, styles, colors, and materials, each of which can impact the price.
However, in general, you can expect to pay between $5 to $9 per square foot for tile installation in your Sacramento home, which can be further impacted by other factors such as customizations, patterns, and more.
During your free consultation, we’ll be sure to provide you with a rock-solid flooring estimate, so you’ll fully know what to expect well in advance of installation day.
